01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Would you rather enjoy Kuroge Wagyu in a rice bowl or grill it yourself as part of a set meal? At Nikutareya, lunch offers both ways to savour the meat. The Kuroge Wagyu roast beef bowl comes in a range of rice sizes, from small at 1,380 yen to extra-large at 1,680 yen. One lunch diner ordered the large size, describing the meat as flavourful and well matched with the rice, and the serving as more substantial than it looked. It is an easy choice whether you want the bowl to take centre stage or prefer a smaller portion.

For a set meal with yakiniku cooked at your table, consider the Service Yakiniku Set or the Wagyu Extra-Lean Set. The former features cuts such as Wagyu kalbi and trimmings; the latter focuses on lean meat with little fat. Both come with a free large serving of rice, and extra rice costs 150 yen. One diner recalled ordering a Service Set or a lean-meat set with liver and tecchan, and found the mildly sweet, light sauce worked well even with fattier cuts. Another lunchtime option is the beef soup set at 770 yen. A diner who ordered the Service Yakiniku Set reported that the soup included beef tendon and made for a satisfying meal. There is also a Beef Soup Combo, which lets you swap the miso soup in a set meal for beef soup—a good alternative when you would rather have your meat in a broth than grilled.

In the evening, yakiniku takes the lead, with a choice of sauce or salt seasoning. The signature regular loin costs 1,780 yen and is also available as a small plate; Silk Loin, served with a dipping sauce topped with egg, starts at 1 slices for 1,100 yen. To try a few cuts, choose a yakiniku assortment or a Wagyu offal mix, available in 100 g, 200 g and 300 g portions. A set course, available by reservation until the day before, is another way to sample the restaurant’s specialities in one meal. The 5,000-yen course includes items such as premium salted tongue, premium kalbi, regular loin, lean meat and an offal assortment; reservations are accepted for groups of 2 or more. Lunch is served from 11:30 to 14, and dinner from 17 to 23. The restaurant is closed on Thursdays.
